The Reason Why You’re Blessed
The Reason Why You’re Blessed
Introduction: Delighting in the Lord
Psalm 37:4: “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.”
This is for written for the faithful people of God who love the Lord and His Word. You press through challenges, and there’s a reason you’re blessed: you’ve learned to delight in the Lord and seen Him fulfill your heart's desires.
The Power of Delight
What does it mean to delight in something? Recently, I saw a man on social media who was thrilled about his collection of old vacuum cleaners. Room after room, he shared details about their make, model, and power. These were items no one else might value, yet he was passionate. It’s astounding how people can become fascinated by the most unexpected things.
We’ve all had moments of excitement over something that, in hindsight, seems trivial. I once ran a landscaping business and developed a great interest in lawn equipment. As a teenager working for $3.65 an hour, I prayed, “Lord, if You help me get my own lawnmower, weedeater, and blower, I’ll be so thankful.” God answered abundantly—my dad’s garage was filled with many lawnmowers, multiple edgers, leaf blowers, and weed eaters.
Even when I moved to Mississippi and was dating my wife, Becky, we’d walk through Sears to look at lawnmowers. How could I be so interested in something I didn’t need?
Developing an Appetite for God
You have the ability to cultivate an appetite for things that will begin to interest you. Spend time with something, take a cursory interest, and soon you’re drawn back to it. That man’s vacuum collection started with one, and his passion grew.
The Bible instructs us in Colossians 3:2-4: “Set your affection on things above, not on things of the earth, for you are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, shall appear, you also shall appear with Him in glory.”
We teach our children to love the things of God.
You can learn to love anything—God’s Word, gospel music, Bible teaching, or the house of God. The reason you’re blessed is that you’ve learned to delight in the things of God. I’m grateful the Lord blesses us, and I never want to live without His blessing.
God Seeks a Heart that is undivided and devoted to Him!
Another reason you’re blessed is found in 2 Chronicles 16:9: “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is perfect toward Him.”
When your heart is undivided and seeks to please God, His eyes find you. When you pray, “Lord, forgive me; I shouldn’t have done that,”
God responds, eager to work on your behalf.
Somewhere in your life—whether at one altar or a thousand—you’ve said, “God, forgive me and help me.”
That’s why you’re blessed.
Hebrews 11 tells us about Enoch, who was translated without seeing death because he had this testimony: he pleased God.
If you want to stay blessed, continue to seek to please God.
Know where your help and blessings come from. I’ve seen people whom God raised from nothing, yet some forgot Him. They grew too proud, stopped caring about God’s opinion, or neglected prayer and church.
But you’re different—you’ve committed to pleasing God, like Enoch.
Humble Repentance and Endurance
To please God, maintain a soft heart that’s quick to repent. Pray, “Lord, forgive me for hardness of heart. Help me seek holiness and care about Your will.” Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, and don’t go to bed without ensuring your heart is right with God.
That’s why you’re blessed.
Jesus said in Matthew 24:13, “He who endures to the end shall be saved.” You’re blessed because you’ve made up your mind to press forward, no matter what others think or do.
The Bible speaks of those who overcome great tribulation by the blood of the Lamb, the word of their testimony, and by not loving their lives unto death (Revelation 12:11).
With faith that says, “Take this whole world, but give me Jesus,” you endure.
Revelation promises seven blessings to those who overcome.
To overcome, you must let go of past hurts, forgive, and forget what’s behind, as Paul wrote in Philippians 3:13.
A Call to Persevere
Look at the world today—technology advances, nations clash, and trouble looms. Recently, two nuclear-powered countries exchanged missiles, and though it settled, a day is coming when peace won’t prevail. When Jesus returns, will He find faith on the earth?
By God’s grace, if I’m here, He will.
That’s why you’re blessed—because you’ve decided to look for His coming.
Conclusion: Living Blessed
If you have not began or ceased to seek to delight yourself in the Lord, it’s never too late to fall in love with God and everything that has to do with Him.
Learn to delight in the Lord.
If you have not considered how to put Pleasing God on the top of your list, I promise you, you will not regret it.
I want to love what He God loves and avoid what God hates.
You’re blessed, and this is a reminder of why: you delight in the Lord, seek to please Him, repent humbly, and endure with a made-up mind.
