Waiting on the rain

As of late April 2026, Mississippi is facing a severe, early-season drought, with nearly half the state in “extreme” (D3) drought, affecting at least 45 counties, according to the Magnolia Tribune. The state experienced its driest February and one of the driest Marches on record (since 1895), with many areas recording only about half of normal rainfall.
While driving down the Natchez Trace this week, I felt a prompting to stop in Rocky Springs. It is a commonly known rest stop where you can view a It was an odd prompting, but I felt it rather strongly, and so when I saw I had passed it, I turned around and pulled into the rest area. I wandered down a small hill and carefully navigated to where I could see the almost non-existent stream.
I heard as it were a whisper in the rustling of the wind a statment.
“Waiting on the rain.”
That evening, the rain came.
This morning, I would like to encourage you, the rain is coming. In no less reality than what we have experienced over the past few nights.
As the rain came in the natural realm, there is coming a rain from heaven in your life.
There is a rain coming in your family.
There is a rain coming.
Joel 2
23 Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.
24 And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the vats shall overflow with wine and oil.
25 And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.
26 And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.
27 And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.
28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:
29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.
We live in a world where all living things have an absolute need for water.
60% of your body is made up of water.
70% of potatoes are water.
75% of Chicken is made up of water
80% of corn is water.
81% of fish is water.
81% of crawfish is made up of water
85% of beef is water.
88% of milk is made of water
90 % of green beans are made up of water.
95% of lettuce is water.
Water is the liquid of life.
Lakes, Rivers, Streams, Ponds, creeks… they exist and provide this desperate thirst of water.
If there is no rain, there is death rather than life.
One of the most famous expressions of thirst for water is Jesus Christ himself, who cried, “I thirst.”
I Thirst.
Of all the life-giving liquids, and even our salvation, is in the Blood.
The Life of the Body is in the blood.
80% of human blood is water.
All of the world as we know it today is dependent on rainfall.
A few years ago, Mississippi suffered from a drought that brought one of the greatest die-offs of trees in known history.
In 2023, one of the worst droughts on record in Mississippi killed an estimated 13 million pine trees alone.
I remember flying into the airport after that drought, and you could see the death of whole swaths of pine trees that were standing dead.
Just cutting down the pine trees that had died is estimated to have cost 95 million in metro areas.
I myself had to have a few dead pine trees in my yard to be cut down.
All because the rain did not come.
Waiting on the rain.
1 Kings 18
30 And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down.
31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the Lord came, saying, Israel shall be thy name:
32 And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord: and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.
33 And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood.
34 And he said, Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time.
35 And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water.
36 And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word.
37 Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the Lord God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.
38 Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The Lord, he is the God; the Lord, he is the God.
40 And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.
41 And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.
42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees,
43 And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.
44 And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down that the rain stop thee not.
45 And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.
46 And the hand of the Lord was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

Deuteronomy 11:13-15
13 And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the Lord your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,
14 That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil.
15 And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest eat and be full.
